Here is an e-mail Danny Sims sent the Shepherds of our church
on Friday March 12, 2010.
An $82,000 offering has been made to our church family!
Half goes to our general operating fund which brings us to $10K over budget YTD. The other half goes to The Great Investment.
Go ahead and read those lines again!
In these days there are many voices targeting you, trying to get you down, telling you the church is not doing well, telling you to focus on the bad and even to ignore the good. Discouragement is a favorite tool of the enemy. Make no mistake. He wants us to give up, to be divided, to fret and worry. Don’t listen to the voices that speak to you from a spirit of negativity! Get in The Word and identify those voices for what they are. Please take 2 minutes and
read Acts 4 and ask God to reveal to you a message about Altamesa from this text.
Sure there are plenty of negatives to go around, but there are plenty of positives too! Let’s celebrate the positives and lead our church to do the same. $82,000 is a BIG positive to celebrate.
We knew our 16 months of 3 assemblies and little or no Bible classes would be tough. It has been. We wondered if we might lose some along the way. We have. But we are gaining some too, particularly as we near completion of the remodel. And we are almost finished with the remodel, so let’s finish strong!
God is still God! Our faith is in Him, not in us. He is still Jehovah-Jireh and will provide for His faithful people. About the basics, let’s make sure we are on the same page. In fact, I say we must make sure we are unified. Which does God tend to bless, a unified or divided church leadership?
Our foundation must be The Living Word of God. Everything else may be good in its place. Good communication, clever programs and a variety of other great ministries and meetings (free lunches for the poor... great counseling... wonderful retreats and camps for all ages...). But without the truths of God's Word, even these great things are of no eternal value. And with The Word must come prayer and the Holy Spirit. Prayer is our real work (all the ministry of our church flows from prayer) and the Spirit is our only power.
Let us resolve to focus on The Word and prayer and call the church to walk in step with the Spirit
(Galatians 5:25). There are many things we could do and a whole bunch we have done that are not in this list of three. But as for me, I plan to focus on these three and let the other things either take care of themselves or be exposed as a waste of time and energy.
And along the way let’s celebrate all the wonderful things of God, ask Him to grow our church family, and praise Him for generous people who are deeply committed to what God is doing in the Altamesa Church and in our community!
See you Sunday!
